Cloud Gaming, the death of PC gaming as we know it?

I have been reading up on this new direction for gaming...not sure if I like the idea or not. Its called Cloud Gaming....which means playing video games using the Cloud Computing format. I can see it being a benefit for people who cant afford to purchase an expensive gaming PC.

I prefer having a PC because I play alot of mod able games like the Call of Duty series. Will cloud gaming make me stuck playing stock games? God I hope NOT! I dont like that idea one bit. Excellent modders will have nothing to mod, this could cause alot of Multiplayer players to quit playing online due to a lack of variety that modders add to these games. These modders add new maps, weapons config files, gameplay changes etc etc. Will we have to play MMOs like World of Warcraft with no add ons??

Will game delevopers still release modding tools if they only stream their games thru cloud gaming providers like Gaikai (I have signed up to get beta to check it out) or Onlive. Will modders be able to upload mods? How will Multiplayer servers work? Will there even be Multiplayer servers?

Is cloud gaming, the wave of the future...if it stagnates gameplay like I think it will....I will probably quit gaming.

  2. I don't know too much about Cloud Computing, but I hope it does not kill PC gaming. PC gaming is already on the downfall because of consoles. The effect can already be seen with the recent Call of Duty series (COD4 and COD:WW). These games were clearly made for consoles because the map sizes are tiny and they include the little extra features such as perks and friend lists etc.

I dunno, I just hope PC gaming stays alive with its strong communities.

  4. I hope this doesn't make the games unmoddable. I personally find alot of the multiplayer games out there unplayable until the modders get a hold of them and make them better. It probably would end my PC gaming life if I had to play only stock games.
