Seems IW has decided to
not support dedicated servers for their new game Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Apparently they dont want to support the PC gaming community...the same community that turned the Call of Duty series into the cash cow that it is today....back when the original game was PC only. They want to destroy the PC multiplayer community as we know it. Its all about catering to the console crowd and the PC players are an afterthought...a way to save a buck. They dont care about us and this decision proves it. Needless to say I am so pissed off about this decision I cant even put it into words. This will be the first title in the Call of Duty PC series that I will NOT be buying...I have paid full price for them all to support them cause I know the pirates out there are killing the industry. Do they honestly think the console matchmaking system is a viable replacement for dedicated servers? What a joke....no mods, no custom maps, no clans, no matches, no scrims, no nothing...nothing but major lag and being forced into some random server playing the same old maps over and over...wow sounds like fun to me. Thank god EA is still supporting dedicated servers...my 100+ member clan wont be buying MW2. The new the
Battlefield Bad Company 2 look pretty good and they arent screwing over the PC crowd.
Post how you feel about this bullshit move by IW on their
forums. Oh and if you can believe this, there was a 70+ page thread consisting of hundreds of outraged PC gamers complaining about this decision that was 'accidently' deleted by a forum admin while trying to merge it...smells like bullshit to me. You can also sign this
petition and use these forum signatures to show your support for the cause:

Great post,
ReplyDeleteWith this decision IW are showing the whole PC multiplayer gaming community that they will do anything to gain more revenue, by controlling the on-line servers and charging for downloadable content (DLC).
IW net is the way that this software company sees the ability to control the enviroment in which their product is played, so that they can keep revenues constant throughout the life of the game.
There are plans to charge a monthly fee for online play as with WOW etc (not sure if that is with this release or the next installment of the COD franchise), that coupled with the charges for any content they release for download means more revenue for them.
We on the other hand have the ability to avoid this change, simply by seeing what else out there fulfills our needs as online gamers.
The COD series of games has effectively carried on (with the exception of UO, which was awesome) with the small map type of gameplay, whilst upgrading elements of game play and graphics. One of the things they have not done and probably will not do is the introduction of a destructabel enviroment (probably due to the extra cost of coding it).
Other game software houses have come up with not only an destructable enviroment, but added micro destructability to it. That coupled with the larger maps, vehicles, and different gametypes, means that a move from COD was probably inevitable at some point.
IW is so wrong to do this to a community that has always supported them. Activision should be ashamed of attaching there name to the game and pull any new titles that they might have been giving to IW and give them to someone who wont try to ruin the gaming community!
ReplyDeleteIW, the biggest bunch of tarts on the planet!

ReplyDeleteSpelunk...I am pretty sure this was a decision prompted BY Activision....they want to exploit every aspect of the game just like Blizzard does with WoW.
ReplyDeleteI just dont see the loigic in it all. its not like they will get money from the pc gamers now. they have lost us.
ReplyDeleteAfter playing a pirated copy w/ working multiplayer I caved in and bought it. It may lack dedicated servers but it still has the classic COD gameplay with some extras tossed in in the way of customization.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the community encountered using IWNET is reminiscient of the poor quality community of XBOX LIVE. Foul mouthed etards is a nice way of putting them, but I'm hoping they will get bored and go back to halo or CS or wherever these people come from. Also first day of playing I encountered an AIMbotter... so much for the supposed security IWNET has have over dedicated server.
IWNET is supposed to pick the best host, but it often does not, creating lag and, if it catches its mistake, an annoying 10-30 second "Host Migration". Even when it does pick a good host, many times the game still displays the effects of players having a bad ping on a traditionaly dedicated server, even the "ping" display shows most at a full "3 green bars".
I'm hoping that IW will see their mistake and bring dedicated servers to CoD6 in some kind of expansion pack that continues the abrubtly ended storyline. If not, maybe players will find a way of hacking in dedicated servers.
Basically, IW really needs to bring back dedicated servers to the COD series if they intend to continue the CoD series (what Ieuan said about migrating is what is going to happen now). I may have bought this one, but I won't fall for it again.
